The Arcaniverse

The main category is Dipole antennas for the 7 MHz band that is about Dipole antenna projects for the 40 meter band. This link is listed in our web site directory since Wednesday Dec 16 2015, and till today ' Linear Loaded 40m Dipole ' has been followed for a total of 415 times. M MANA is an antenna analyzing tool based on the moment method introduced in MININEC (Mini Numerical Electromagnetics Code) Version 3. MININEC should not be confused with NEC, which is a large antenna analysis program written in FORTRAN and designed to run on main-frame computers.

Stories so far

Red Blood: The story that started it all.

Here, Humanity has explored vast regions of space and while it has found many planets with life, Humanity has yet to find anyone it can call its intellectual equal. Until today...

Through a combination of idiocy, misunderstandings, and sheer bad luck, First Contact did not go so well. Now, Humanity tries to make amends, the Eltrians prepare for war, Drone begins his plans of destruction, and one Lernite girl is in way over her head.

Races

  • Human- Lacking magic due to having iron in their blood and evolving on a planet with a massive amount of iron ore, they have developed science and technology. By this point in the far future, it is not uncommon to live of 140 years. Politically controlled by the United Earth Senate, the human homeworld Earth is the obvious seat of power. Due to the events of the Reign of Silica in 2619, Humans have taken to creating a method of starting first contact.

  • Eltrians- The single most human-like race discovered, they are one of the premier political power in the Arcaniverse not depended on science. They have been best described as similar to a fictional race in ancient fantasy stories called 'Elbes'. With a lifespan of about 300 years, they are among the longest lived race in the galaxy. As one of the first races to develop portal-based FTL, they control about 50-60 systems completely and have influence in an additional 120 or so. They have violet/blue blood and are highly susceptible to the effects of iron. Their goddess is worshiped and often consulted on national matters.

  • Dwirthite- Once described by a human solder as 'subterranean, magical, steampunk, space dwarves', most humans agree with this assessment. Short, hairy, stubborn, etc., they are well known for their reluctance in trading with other races. Experts in magic of geology, earth/ground, metal working, and alchemy, they are the go-to race for any major form of machinery. They have gold/bronze blood and have some resistance to iron’s effect on their body. The god of the Dwirthites is stubborn and cold but shows no restraint when protecting his people.

  • Aqueoids- A race hailing from a world covered in approximately 89% water, they have long since developed magic suited for underwater life. While they lack the machinery of the Dwirthites or the arboreal skills of the Eltrians, they crafted their civilization not from mountains of stone or forests of trees, but from life itself. Through magic, they crafted life-forms into tools and weapons: a giant oyster as a house, massive eels used as shuttles, and tiny squids used as pens, these people have perfected the art of shaping nature's creatures to their will. Their god is rumored to cause insanity in non-Aqueoids if you're lucky...

  • Lernites- A sub-race of Eltrians, they are native to Eltriheim and live in subterranean conclaves. Unfortunately for them, they're best-known for their penchant at raiding, raping, and rioting. Their skin tone is significantly darker than their above-ground brethren and they have a nasty problem of bursting into flames in direct sunlight. Both they and their goddess were banished from the light in the darkness below. But whispers of change are heard in the world where the sun holds no power...

Important Characters

Antenna
  • Lisa Goln- Captain of the UESS Wunder Above, Lisa is an impressive 1.44 meters tall and able to out-strategize, out-pilot, and out-drink anyone. Despite her less than perfect reputation when it comes to alcohol, recreational substances, and general festivities, she has proven her worthiness of captaining the Wunder Above on multiple occasions. Unfortunately, due to her poor skills at day-to-day life, she relies on Vlad to keep the Wunder Above afloat when not in combat.

  • Vlad Stoker- Chief Weapons Officer aboard the Wunder Above, Vlad is the de-facto father-figure of the crew and maintains the ship far outside of his job description. Standing over 2.1 meters tall, he towers over the actual captain of the ship.

  • Lord-Guardian Zenkel Hytrel- As the Lord-Guardian of Nazeign, he equivalent of a police chief, fire marshal, and Surgeon General of his city. With a passion for killing heretics, fending off Lernite raids, and stopping criminals, Hytrel has proved his devotion to Nazeign for over 140 years.

  • Drone 156783- He started out as a mindless, non-sentient probe for the human race but after exposure to magic, he became... more. Now a 19.5 metric ton spider tank powered by magic and science, Drone is ready to complete his mission, which somehow went from 'find aliens and establish good relations' to 'find aliens and leave no survivors'...

A brief Overview of Magic

Magic works by affecting the Hex Field. The Hex Field is one of the fundamental forces of the universe but due to its special properties, it has never been observed by humans, planet-bound or otherwise. Similar to the Higgs Field, instead of being affected by mass or gravity, the Hex is affected by structure, shape, and most importantly, composition.

The idea of glyphs and runes and magic circles come from how the Hex can be affected by the shape of an object. While the size of a rune or glyph does not matter, the precision of the shape does.

A wand of staff can take advantage of how the Hex is affected by structure and act as an antenna or amplifier for magic, similar to a magnifying glass focusing the sun’s rays and making fire.

Finally, the very composition of the material, either influencing or being influenced, has a massive effect on the magic. Some materials (gold, silver, bronze) can amplify a spell’s effect by several magnitude whereas other materials (Alkali metals, some types of stone, bone) will only amplify some types of magic and weaken others (bone is good for healing but not fire-making, granite can be strengthened but not weakened, and alkali metals react violently to water-based magic in any form). In addition, some materials (titanium, plastic, bamboo) have no amplifying effect at all and can only focus a spell (total energy stay the same but is more concentrated).

One material is unique: iron. Iron acts a complete vacuum for magic, pulling it all in and releasing none. However, the effect is not instantaneous: if a spell is a car and magic the fuel in the tank, the iron is a hole in the tank. More iron means a bigger and a faster drain. The effect is also an inverse distance squared effect i.e. bring the iron twice as close, get four times the effect.

Magic ultimately runs on mana, sheer force of will, emotion, and intuition. A caster’s emotions can influence the effect of a spell i.e. anger makes it volatile, sadness weakens and slows, joy increases potency, fear dulls, etc.

Mana is the electricity of magic. It is generated by several method but the most common are: in a sentient being’s body, by a planet blessed by a god/goddess, certain types of crystals exposed to stimuli, and by pacts made with divine beings. When casting a spell, a magic user draws mana from their surroundings. If there is not enough mana, they begin using the mana within their own bodies. If their mana is depleted, death or coma may occur. A common solution for using magic in a low-mana density location is to carry around crystals charged with mana.

Because of how the Hex Field works, magic user are able to, while not completely break, but bend the rules of physics (conservation of energy, momentum, forces, mass, relativity, quantum mechanics, etc.)And finally, Magic does NOT follow these rules all the time. There currently are theories that at some level, the Hex Field is sentient or conscious, just not in a way that humans or xenos can comprehend. As a result, the Hex has been witnessed to change for little or no reason. It behavior is unpredictable at best.
